In NFL betting, there’s no time like the present.

While the Hall of Fame Game may not be the best version of football we see this year, it at least offers us some opportunity to bet and settle on the same day for the first time since February.

Here is PFF's pick for the best bet to make for Thursday night's game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders.

BEST BET: Teaser — Jacksonville Jaguars (+8.5) and New York Giants (+7.5)

Situations without continuity are typically the focus for early preseason games. The working theory is that teams with substantial offseason roster and coaching turnover, especially at key positions, need more time to settle into a new rhythm. For this reason, we could expect these teams to play some starters for longer, giving them more opportunities against the twos from the opposing team.

The current spread (-2.5 for Las Vegas) sits in prime teaser territory, and the low total (30.5) provides additional benefit to picking up an additional six points. We also haven’t heard the plan for the Raiders' key players, who could see little to no run as well in tonight's game.

Las Vegas covering nine points in a meaningless game with a total sitting at 30.5 is asking too much. Jacksonville has the better backup quarterback situation and a deeper roster that could show out better in the second half of this matchup. So, teasing them up to +8.5 looks like an easy bet to cash.

What do we pair with this teaser leg?

Thankfully, the preseason offers us the perfect opportunity in the next game up, with the New York Giants facing off against the New England Patriots next Thursday.

Bill Belichick has been mediocre in the preseason throughout his career and the Giants fit the continuity aspect I mentioned earlier — they have a new coach and a young roster in need of early reps in the preseason. Moving them up to +7.5 provides plenty of wiggle room if we do see the Patriots starters early on in this matchup.

What is a teaser bet? 

A teaser is a form of a parlay bet that allows the bettor to move the point spread or total a certain amount of points in their favor.

The standard teaser calls for the bettor to get six points per football game. The “catch” is that they must choose at least two teams, increasing the chances of the bet failing by at least one leg. Like a parlay bet, all of the bets in a teaser must win for the bet to cash.
