Macri favorite IDP fantasy football picks – my guys

Every fantasy football junkie who plays in multiple leagues — whether standard scoring, redraft, best ball or dynasty — knows that there are certain guys we just can’t avoid drafting. We end up with these players in almost every league.

I’ve compiled a list of “my guys” from the defensive side of the ball. These are players who I can't help but draft in any IDP league based on their value, production or (usually) both. Some of these players are guys that I’ve seen slip in drafts, likely because they don’t have the name brand or perceived upside of those taken before them despite being very likely to have the more productive seasons in 2020. Others are players I strongly believe will have great seasons, so I just have to add them to my roster whether others believe it or not — that's why they’re “my guys.”

DEFENSIVE END

Starting with the pass-rushers, we know that the Bosa Brothers, Danielle Hunter, Myles Garrett and J.J. Watt will be some of the top names taken in drafts. Many people tend to get lost after these big names come off the board. I’ve seen people reach for players coming off of one big season, like Maxx Crosby, or someone who has been unreliable in IDP like Dante Fowler. I’ve also seen the likes of Yannick Ngakoue taken early based solely on his past production while ignoring the fact that we have no idea if and where he’ll even play this coming season. That being said, onto “my guys” for 2020 fantasy football IDP leagues.

Sam Hubbard, Cincinnati Bengals

With Carlos Dunlap now entering his 11th season in the NFL, we started to see last year a possible changing of the guard in Cincinnati with Hubbard playing the most snaps on the team along the defensive line. Not only do those snaps mean an incredible opportunity to produce, they absolutely translated into fantasy production in 2019.

Hubbard led all edge defenders in total tackles last season with 78, including nine sacks. Considering how DE tackles are often weighed heavier than other defensive positions in IDP, this was a huge fantasy revelation. Yet Hubbard will be overlooked in all formats because he is nowhere near a household name. My most recent Hubbard shares came in a draft where I got him as DE18, which, considering my current ranking of him as DE10, is a really nice value.
