DEFENSIVE LINE
EDGE RANDY GREGORY, DALLAS COWBOYS
Not a whole lot needs to be said to convince IDP managers to pick up Gregory after he posted a sack and a pick-six in his return to the lineup. Gregory was playing like one of the best edge defenders in the NFL before he went to injured reserve (IR) after Week 9, as he had already accumulated five sacks, 32 pressures and a 90.7 pass-rush grade (third among EDGEs) in seven games.
In his return to the Cowboys lineup, Gregory played more of a designated pass-rusher role, as he was eased back into action with 46% of Dallas' defensive snaps, but that shouldn’t be a concern going forward. Just as we’ve seen Demarcus Lawrence’s snaps increase since he’s returned from IR, the same can be expected of Gregory, who was averaging over a 60% snaps share when healthy. Grab Gregory where you can because this may be your last chance to secure a top-performing edge rusher who can help you win your league this year.
Gregory’s ranks among all edge defenders this season, despite missing five games:
Pass-rush snaps | Pass-rush grade | Pressures | Sacks |
222 (T-62nd) | 90.6 (3rd) | T-30th | 6 (T-22) |
EDGE TACO CHARLTON, PITTSBURGH STEELERS
The Steelers lost both of their starting edge rushers — T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith — during Thursday night’s game, and both were heavily rostered in the majority of IDP leagues. If one, or both, misses extended time, then it's wise to take some shots at the next best option — even if it is just as a bench stash until we know more about the Watt and Highsmith injuries.
Charlton played 53% of Pittsburgh's defensive snaps in Week 14 and was the highest-graded pass-rusher along the Steelers defensive line as a result, posting an 85.9 pass-rush grade. Charlton finished with two pressures on just 13 pass-rush snaps but also added four total tackles, which is something we see from the Steelers' edge defenders quite a bit. Because of the snap volume for the Steelers' starters, they tend to have a decent tackle floor as a result, making them great IDP options. If Watt and/or Highsmith misses any time, Charlton could receive an even larger snap share in Week 15 and beyond.
DI ROY ROBERTSON-HARRIS, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
The Jaguars haven’t offered many great IDP options this season outside of Josh Allen, so when adding any off the waiver wire, they have to be considered depth pieces first and foremost. That is the case with Robertson-Harris, who saw his highest snap share of the season (70%) in Week 13 and posted his third sack in the last four games. He has been playing a decent chunk of snaps all season as an interior defender for Jacksonville but really only started to produce IDP-relevant numbers over the past few weeks.
Harris lines up primarily as a defensive tackle, so there isn’t any competition for snaps with some of Jacksonville's other IDP options this season (Josh Allen, Dawuane Smoot). If designated as a defensive tackle, he can provide even better depth to an already thin position.
Robertson-Harris splits this season:
Weeks | Sacks | Pressures | Tackles |
1-9 (5 games) | 0 | 10 | 11 |
10-14 (5 games) | 3 | 14 | 13 |
