Story of the Game
The Raiders quarterback threw for a season-high 381 yards and needed every single one of them to take down the winless Jets. Carr has been more efficient throwing the ball downfield this season than in years past, but he struggled against a subpar Jets secondary today. His only completed deep pass was the game-winner to Ruggs.
The star of the Raiders' offense was tight end Darren Waller. The stud tight end recorded a career-high 200 yards and was on the receiving end of 46% of Carr’s completions and 52% of the team’s total receiving yards.
The Jets played one of their better offensive games of the season. Ty Johnson led the way on the ground for New York, rushing for 104 yards and becoming the first player to break the century mark for the Jets this season. As a unit, the Jets had a season-high seven rushes over 10 yards on a reeling Raiders defense.
Neither defense was able to stop the opposing offense in this matchup, with the Jets and Raiders both giving up 10 plays that gained 15-plus yards — tied second for the 1 p.m. slate of games.
Rookie Watch
Ruggs made the catch of the game with 5 seconds left in the game to help the Raiders stay afloat in the playoff race. All three of Ruggs' receptions went for over 10 yards. Another rookie receiver, Denzel Mims, had another solid day. Mims ranked second on the Jets in receiving yards (40), with both of his receptions gaining first downs.
Mehki Becton came into Week 13 with some impressive play but struggled against the Raiders. The first-round tackle allowed four total pressures and two sacks.
On the other side of the ball, New York's young secondary, which consists of Lamar Jackson, Bryce Hall, Javelin Guidry and Ashtyn Davis, combined to allow 19 receptions for 269 yards and three touchdowns.
