It’s hard to find fault with the two teams that ended up in the Super Bowl this season. Though you could argue the Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints – to a lesser extent – were also deserving of a spot among the final two teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers both belong in the Super Bowl after outstanding seasons. They provide a compelling matchup between two great offensive minds at head coach in Andy Reid and Kyle Shanahan, along with several strength-on-strength subplots that will go a long way to determining the outcome.
One of those matchups to watch is the explosive downfield passing attack of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs against a 49ers’ defense that limited downfield passing better than any other team in the NFL this past season.
The ability that the Chiefs have shown the last two seasons to score from any point on the field is remarkable. They pick up big plays in the passing game with ease – a product of aggressive play-calling from Reid, a group of electric playmakers and a truly unique talent in Mahomes that can make any throw on the field.
