Pittsburgh Steelers sign S Minkah Fitzpatrick to a 4-year contract extension worth over $18.4 million per year

The Pittsburgh Steelers and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick have agreed to terms on a four-year contract worth over $18.4 million per year. The deal reportedly includes $36 million guaranteed at signing and makes Fitzpatrick the highest-paid safety in NFL history.

The extension, negotiated and confirmed by WME Sports, was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday afternoon.

Originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins with the 11th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, Fitzpatrick was traded to the Steelers in 2019.

The former Alabama star has played 4,226 snaps since joining the NFL and has graded above 75.0 in two of his four professional seasons. He's racked up 278 tackles and 52 defensive stops over his career.

Fitzpatrick earned the lowest PFF grade of his career in 2021, finishing the season ranked 77th among 98 qualifying players at the position.
