Terron Armstead carted off the practice field with a right leg injury

Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl left tackle Terron Armstead was carted off at Dolphins/Texans joint practice Thursday with an apparent right leg injury.

When healthy, Armstead has proven to be one of the top tackles in the NFL, grading no lower than 75.9 overall in his 10-year career. Unfortunately, Armstead has missed at least one game in every season of his career, including four last year as he battled toe, pec and other nagging injuries all season.

The Dolphins would be in serious trouble should Armstead’s injury prove serious. The team earned a 67.2 pass-blocking grade and allowed a 22.9% pressure rate with Armstead in the lineup last season. Without him, they posted a 42.7 pass-blocking grade and allowed a 46.1% pressure rate.

Wide receiver Jameson Williams ruled out for the remainder of the preseason with a hamstring injury

According to head coach Dan Campbell, Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams will likely sit out the rest of the preseason due to a hamstring injury.

Williams was drafted 12th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft but missed the first 11 games of the season while rehabbing a knee injury. He returned in Week 13 but didn’t carve out much of a role, playing just 78 total snaps and catching one pass, a 41-yard touchdown against the Vikings in Week 14.

Williams played 51 snaps in the preseason opener last week against the New York Giants, catching two-of-six targets for 18 yards. The injury is another setback for a player who will be suspended for the first six games of the season for violating the NFL’s gambling policy.

With a healthy Williams returning to the fold, the Lions have a chance to win their first postseason game since the 1991 season, the longest active drought in the NFL.

Cornerback Ronald Darby signs with the Ravens

Free agent cornerback Ronald Darby signed with the Ravens Thursday, just one day after the news that starting cornerback Marlon Humphrey would be sidelined for at least a month with a foot injury.

Darby previously visited with the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans. He makes a lot of sense for a Ravens team that is good enough to make a deep run in a stacked AFC this season.

The Ravens are Darby’s fifth team since entering the NFL in 2015. He has been consistently productive over his career, finishing with an overall grade lower than 60.0 just one time in his eight seasons. The former second-round pick has picked off eight passes, broken up 61 others and is still only 29 years old.

C.J. Stroud to start Saturday’s preseason game against the Dolphins

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud will start Saturday’s preseason game against the Miami Dolphins, head coach DeMeco Ryans announced Thursday.

The news does not come as a surprise after Stroud started the preseason opener last week against the Patriots. In that game, Stroud played 12 snaps, completing 2-of-4 passes for 13 yards and an interception.

While he has not officially been named the starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Ravens, it seems inevitable that will be the case. The Texans gave Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil (80.0 overall grade in 2022) and right tackle Tytus Howard (67.9 overall grade in 2022) three-year extensions this offseason, solidifying their offensive line for the future with Stroud at the helm.
