Welcome to Week 3 of the NFL season. Below are the PFF staff picks in the early-afternoon slate:
Ben Brown: Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams O 6.5 receptions at Tennessee Titans (-115 DraftKings)
• Two teams that stumbled out of the gate are getting desperate in Week 3 in Tennessee. No Hunter Renfrow also signals the Raiders should move back to their Week 1 approach of force feeding Davante Adams in a plus matchup. The Titans coverage' unit ranks 23rd in PFF's opponent-adjusted grade and their heavy-zone look should allow plenty of opportunities for Adams underneath. It may not be the higehst value targets, but we should see Adams easily eclipse six receptions in a back-and-forth matchup.
Martyn Carlisle: Tennessee Titans WR Treylon Burks O 40.5 receiving yards (-115 BetMGM; playable up to 45.5 yards at -115)
• Treylon Burks received some criticism during training camp, and that has translated in to less usage so far early in the season with fifth-round rookie WR Kyle Philips out-snapping Burks in Week 1 before Burks took a larger role in Week 2. Philips is now injured, opening the door for even more playing time for Burks, but that extra time has not yet been properly accounted for in his receiving yards line. The Titans get to play the Raiders ‘D,' which has given up 50+ receiving yards to six players in two weeks.
Judah Fortgang: Baltimore Ravens alt spread -9.5 at New England Patriots
New England is not built to stop the Ravens offense, nor can it exploit the areas in which Baltimore's ‘D' is weakest. Look for the Ravens to win handily Sunday in Foxborough and run up the score while playing from ahead — a position in which they’ve been elite in the Lamar Jackson era.
Tej Seth: Patrick Mahomes O 2.5 pass TDs at Indianapolis Colts (+120 PointsBet)
Sam Monson: Kansas City Chiefs -5.5 at Indianapolis Colts (-110 BetMGM)
• Patrick Mahomes tends to be a cheat code generally, but against Gus Bradley last season it was as one sided as it gets. Across two games against the Raiders, Mahomes completed 74% of his passes, threw seven touchdowns and no picks and had a passer rating of 132.9. Even if he regresses to his career baseline against Bradley defenses (108 passer rating), it's a matchup the Chiefs should run away with.
