NFL Week 8 Game Recap: San Francisco 49ers 33, Chicago Bears 22

The San Francisco 49ers thwarted a valiant effort by the Chicago Bears, scoring 18 fourth-quarter points to hold off Justin Fields and company.

Fields threw for 175 yards and rushed for 103 with a touchdown, while Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 322 yards on just 17 completions and rushed for two TDs.

San Francisco 49ers 

Quarterback

Garoppolo was elite as the downs wore on, throwing for 24.0 yards per attempt on third downs.

Running Backs

Rookie Elijah Mitchell had his best game as a pro, going for 137 yards with 129 coming after contact. He had six first down rushes on his 18 attempts.

Receivers

Deebo Samuel had a great game, catching six of his nine targets for 171 yards with 99 coming after the catch. His yards per route run was an absurd 7.13. 

Offensive Line

Laken Tomlinson allowed four pressures but was the only player on the offensive line to allow multiple pressures. Daniel Brunskill didn’t allow a pressure and the line did not give up a sack.

Defensive Line

The 49ers defensive line combined for 20 total pressures. Joey Bosa led the way with five pressures and two sacks. D.J. Jones made four run stops on only 16 run defense snaps. 

Linebackers

Fred Warner was solid, picking up three tackles against the run and a run stop and not allowing a pass to be caught in his coverage. He forced an incompletion on his one target against.

Secondary

Emmanuel Moseley was targeted the most in the 49ers back-end, giving up five catches on seven targets with four going for first downs. Josh Norman and K’Waun Williams each allowed four catches on five targets with Norman giving up a touchdown catch.

Fields put together a good game underneath but struggled pushing the ball beyond 10 yards and took four sacks.

Running Backs

Khalil Herbert was given 88.5% of the handoffs for the Bears but only rushed for 3.1 yards per carry and forced three missed tackles on his 23 rushes.

Receivers

Allen Robinson continued to struggle with Fields as his quarterback, catching three passes for 21 yards on just four targets for a low 0.64 yards per route run. Darnell Mooney cracked 2.0 YPPR on nine targets as he hauled in six for 64 yards. 

Offensive Line

Four of the five starting offensive linemen had at least three pressures, with Sam Mustipher, Cody Whitehair and Jason Peters each with four and James Daniel coming in with three.

Defensive Line

The Bears defensive line totaled seven pressures but couldn’t even hit the quarterback, much less sack him. Bilal Nichols and Robert Quinn were the only ones with multiple pressures, each with two.

Linebackers

Roquan Smith had three run stops and a tackle for loss and only gave up six yards in coverage on one target. Danny Trevathan was targeted three times and gave up a catch each time, all for first downs.

Secondary

Kindle Vildor and Duke Shelley each gave up over 100 yards in coverage. Vildor allowed 105 on seven targets — five were caught, four for first downs. Shelley allowed 117 yards on only three catches.
