- In an interview with Jason Wolf of the USA Today, Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker has said that he believes third-round draft choice Jonnu Smith will “be better than me in time.”
- Taken with the 100th overall pick in the 2017 draft, Smith is coming off a year in which he led Conference USA tight ends in receiving yards with 506 and forced 11 missed tackles on 42 receptions, which ranked third of all college tight ends.
- Like Walker (who ranked second among NFL tight ends with 2.00 yards per route run from the slot in 2016), Smith performed well in the slot in 2016 and his 1.59 yards per route run ranked 14th out of 73 tight ends with 80 snaps in the slot.
- The Titans used two tight ends on 30 percent of their plays last year, so with Anthony Fasano’s departure in free agency, Smith should have an immediate opportunity to contribute along with Walker.
