Kiko Alonso to play weak side linebacker in 2017

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, a Miami Dolphins source has said the most logical option is playing linebacker Kiko Alonso at weak side linebacker and Lawrence Timmons at middle linebacker.
Alonso notched 1176 snaps for the Dolphins in 2016, and lined up mainly as an inside linebacker. He ended the season with an overall grade of 72.9, ranking 48th of 87 qualifying linebackers. He also led the Miami Dolphins inside linebacker corps in run stop percentage, with 6.6 percent.
While playing at the strong side in 2013, Alonso did well in coverage and allowed a passer rating of just 74.0, the league’s third lowest mark allowed by an inside linebacker. Playing Alonso at weak side linebacker will allow him to make more plays on the football, something he showed he could do in 2016, when his total 41 total stops led all Dolphins linebackers and ranked 20th of 57 inside linebackers with at least 180 snaps.
