- Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Todd Downing is looking to get WR Cordarrelle Patterson involved more in the offense, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Michael Gehlken.
- While he has been limited as a true receiving option, Patterson has been an electric playmaker throughout his career, especially on special teams, as he has averaged more than 30 yards on kickoff returns and scored five touchdowns on 136 returns in his career.
- Furthermore, the Vikings were trying to get the ball into Patterson’s hands in numerous ways including getting him involved on end arounds and reverses. Although the former Tennessee wide receiver was never able to match his five rushing touchdowns from his rookie year, overall, he forced 29 missed tackles on just 31 carries over the past four seasons.
- Patterson’s elusiveness in the open field was used in the passing game too as precisely 25 percent of all his targets came on screen passes while he was with the Vikings. As a result, Patterson was always among the best receivers when it came to gaining yards with the ball in his hands and ranked sixth among receivers with at least 270 targets with an average of 6.3 yards after the catch in 2016.
Raiders hope to increase Patterson's involvement
