- Royce Freeman had a somewhat down year in 2016 but stayed in Eugene despite a coaching change and remains one of the top running back prospects for the 2018 NFL draft. Freeman looked healthy and productive on the field in the Ducks season opener against Southern Utah. He carried the ball 23 times for 150 yards and four touchdowns, earning 68 yards after contact and forcing six missed tackles.
- The modern day NFL requires it’s running backs to be able to catch and Freeman doesn’t disappoint in that regard. He showed that he has a well-rounded skill-set by catching all four of his targets and providing 60 yards after the catch. The passer rating when targeting Freeman: 118.8.
- Freeman also displayed his unselfish style of play on the field with excellent blocking against the Thunderbirds. Freeman executed more than one punishing lead block on run plays and was sound in pass protection as well grading positively in both categories.
